Are there any causes that you support?
I am a big supporter of adoption advocacy. One of our friends started a nonprofit helping support orphanages overseas, and I loved it so much that I volunteered with the organization and later became their development director. I had the opportunity to visit one of the orphanages in Bolivia for a week, and it changed my life!
Do you play a musical instrument?
As a music education major at Capital University, I was required to learn all the band and orchestra instruments. However, I can only play Hot Cross Buns on most! My primary instrument is the flute, and I often play electric bass.
What is one of the best pieces of advice you have received?
As a teenager, I had the opportunity to go to a leadership clinic by Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, a nationally recognized advocate for the importance of leadership development and music education. He always said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” My husband and I always quote that to our students and kids, and we try to live that out every day!
